Roles & Responsibilities
What is it like to be an undergraduate research assistant in the Learning, Cognition, & Development Lab? Undergraduate students have worked in the lab in a variety of capacities, including as volunteers, as part of a research course for academic credit (e.g., Ed Psych 699), and as senior thesis students. Students have typically worked in the lab in some capacity for at least one semester prior to conducting an independent senior thesis.
Undergraduate research assistants’ responsibilities are geared toward students’ interests and the requirements of ongoing projects, including working with parents and children; visiting local preschools and elementary schools to collect data; designing and creating research stimuli; helping recruit research participants; coding videotapes; and analyzing data. Students are also expected to attend weekly lab meetings.
Prospective Graduate Students
If you are interested in being a graduate student in the lab, please contact the lab director, Dr. Haley Vlach, for more information. The application procedure and department guidelines for admittance can be found on the Department of Educational Psychology’s website: Graduate Program in Educational Psychology.
