Ashley Reece (Ezpeleta)
Ashley Reece (Ezpeleta) is a fifth-year Ph.D. student in the Human Development area of the Department of Educational Psychology, being advised by Dr. Haley Vlach. She received her B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Linguistics from Miami University (OH) and served as the lab manager for Dr. Edward Hubbard’s Educational Neuroscience Lab (here at UW–Madison). Ashley’s research looks at how cognitive processes influence children’s ability to learn concrete and abstract words and words with multiple meanings. She is also interested in understanding children’s ability to monitor the words they have learned. The long-term goal of her work is to generate an empirical base for theories that can be used to improve educational practices, leading to more success in teaching children new words and their meanings.
